Welcome back everyone!

The 2022 11th Annual Maya at the Lago Conference (Thu 04/28 to Sun 05/01) will celebrate the amazing career of Dr. David Freidel. Many of Dr. Freidel's colleagues and former students will present, and the theme of the conference will revolve around questions of Maya rulership. We will also be highlighting David’s contributions to the field of Maya Archaeology, especially his work at Cerros, Yaxuna, and Waka’.

M@L 11 will have a hybrid and bilingual format. We will continue offering our program on a Zoom Webinar as in recent years, so that those who can’t travel will not miss any of it.

Yet, we will also be holding a live version of the conference at the Hurt Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Davidson College. Those of you who are ready to join us here and engage with our speakers will have a chance to do so. While the talks and workshops will still be streamed, attending them in-person will obviously add much value to the experience. Meals, drinks, and coffee will be provided to participants for a fee. Following Davidson College policies, high-filtration masks are encouraged when in-door.

The online version of the conference is free. The in-person ticket price is $250 (but email us if you are a student and would like to participate in person). You will be able to pay upon arrival to the conference.

As always, Maya at the Lago is a four-day "Everything Maya" event featuring lectures, round-table discussions, and a hieroglyphic workshop. Maya at the Lago is an inclusive conference that brings together members of the public, lifelong learners, pre-collegiate students, and academics to listen and interact with established and young scholars of all things Maya.

The online version of M@L2022 is entirely free, and so are all issues of The Mayanist! Yet, if you like what you’re seeing and are feeling generous, all donations to AFAR are much appreciated and will help us continue delivering excellent scholarly events and publications.

We look forward to hosting you in our virtual auditorium very soon! Zoom links will be posted here soon.
